Yoga & Ayurveda: One Tradition, Two Expressions of Wisdom

Program Description

Yoga & Ayurveda: One Tradition, Two Expressions of Wisdom

Yoga and Ayurveda have never been separate disciplines. They arose from the same Vedic tradition, share the same philosophical foundations, and ultimately guide us toward the same goal: reducing suffering and realizing our highest nature. As sister sciences, they offer complementary expressions of this shared wisdom. Explore their foundations, their connection within the Integral Yoga lineage, and the wider family of Vedic sciences, while deepening your appreciation for the wisdom already woven into your yoga practice.

For students of Integral Yoga, this connection is especially meaningful. Swami Satchidananda received his training from Swami Sivananda, who was not only one of the great yoga masters of modern times, but also a trained physician with a deep commitment to Ayurveda. Understanding this lineage helps us appreciate that caring for the body, cultivating the mind, and pursuing spiritual realization were never intended to be separate paths—they are complementary expressions of a single tradition.

Together we’ll explore the shared roots of Yoga and Ayurveda, discover how these sister sciences naturally support one another, and briefly introduce the broader family of Vedic sciences, including Jyotisha and Vastu, to better understand the holistic worldview from which they emerged.

Whether you’ve practiced yoga for decades or are newer to the tradition, this workshop offers a richer appreciation for the wisdom that has always been woven into your practice.

Together we’ll explore:

  • The shared philosophical foundations of Yoga and Ayurveda
  • The significance of the Integral Yoga lineage and Swami Satchidananda’s connection to Ayurveda through Swami Sivananda
  • How Yoga and Ayurveda support one another in cultivating health, balance, and spiritual growth
  • An introduction to the broader Vedic sciences and their unified vision of human flourishing

Continuing Education: Participants can apply 2.5 hours toward Yoga Alliance teacher credits.
