200-Hour Teacher Training, Module 2: Yoga Teaching Essentials
Program Description
200-Hour Teacher Training, Module 2: Yoga Teaching Essentials
“Yoga” means “union” in the ancient Sanskrit language. It is a perfect description of the Integral Yoga method which synthesizes the various branches of Yoga into a comprehensive lifestyle system. The six branches of Integral Yoga (Hatha, Raja, Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, and Japa) are powerful tools to encourage wellness and self-mastery. The aim is to promote the harmonious development of every aspect of the individual – the results are subtle, profound, and measurable.
For over 40 years, Integral Yoga’s internationally respected training program has been continually developed and refined to meet the personal and professional Yogic needs of our participants. Rooted in ancient wisdom with a contemporary approach for modern times, we provide a wide reaching foundation for trainees to develop their knowledge and personal practice of Yoga, along with the essential skills for teaching. Graduates of our training program receive both a practical and a philosophical understanding of the full scope of Yoga teachings and practices, and are well prepared to serve in guiding others along the Yogic path.
Module 2: Yoga Teaching Essentials
For practitioners who have completed Module 1, Module 2 covers the final 150 hours of credit for 200-Hour Teacher Training. This module provides experienced Yoga practitioners with the skills and knowledge to teach Hatha Yoga with confidence, clarity and compassion. Participants study teaching methodology and learn how to lead Yoga classes in various settings, both online and in-person, and for diverse populations. Throughout the course, trainees will be engaged in practice teaching sessions, receiving personalized feedback and guidance from the trainers. Workshops in ethics and professional development will prepare trainees to establish themselves as professional Yoga instructors upon graduation. The final exam for certification is a teaching practicum, leading a complete Integral Yoga class.
Trainees will refine their knowledge of Yoga and develop essential teaching skills through the exploration of:
- Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra and Meditation theory
- Practical applications of anatomy and physiology
- Teaching methodology
- Class structure and sequencing
- Safe and effective cueing, assists and modifications
- Sanskrit language for Yoga teachers
- Ethics, informed by study of Yama and Niyama
- Setting up your professional practice as a Yoga instructor
All textbooks and study materials will be provided at the beginning of the course. Students should plan to spend about 2-3 hours per week in self-study which includes reading, reflective journaling, and preparing for practice teaching sessions, as well as 1-2 hours per week attending Hatha classes.
Enrollment in this course includes free access to online and in-person classes through Integral Yoga Institute for the duration of the program. Access to class recordings and study materials will be available through the online learning portal for 12 months after graduation.
Upon successful completion of both Modules 1 and 2, graduates will receive the 200-Hour Integral Yoga Teacher Certificate, and will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance for the RYT 200 designation. Graduates interested in teaching at IYI will have the option to continue developing their skills through a mentoring process with senior teachers, and teaching opportunities through IYI will be available to those who excel during the program.
