Rev. Bhagavan Metro started his spiritual quest 2 days before Christmas in 1969 when he and his wife, Rev. Bhavani Metro,sat in meditation with Eknath Easwaran in Satsang in Berkley, California. He met his Satguru. Sri Swami Satchidananda in the Spring of 1973 in Denver, Colorado. There he learned and taught all aspects of Integral Yoga. He and Bhavani moved to Yogaville East in Pomfret Center, Connecticut, with their 5 children in 1979. They were ordained as Integral Yoga Ministers by Sri Swami Satchidananda on Guru Poornima 1980. In 1981 they moved to Satchidananda-Ashram Yoga, Virginia where they built many Ashram structures and currently reside. They are celebrating 60 years of marriage this year.
Rev. Bhagavan served as the Chairperson for the Integral Yoga Ministry Board for many years, is past Director of the Integral Yoga Ministry Seminary and currently sits on the Spiritual Life Board. During his life he has been a Yoga teacher, building contractor, professional baseball player, pole vaulter, dance instructor, carpenter, cowboy, gold miner, scuba diver, wedding officiant and a janitor, among other things. Having 6 children, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grand children he knows a bit about family life. He now serves by washing dishes, doing the laundry, keeping the vibe cool and living Advaita Vedanta.
