TT Admissions Policy

Integral Yoga Institute Teacher Training Program
Admission and Continuation Policies

January 2018

Admission Process
Acceptance to the Basic Teacher Training Program is conditional on the applicant having at least six months of regular Yoga practice and having taken at least ten classes at Integral Yoga Institute. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the trainers. A completed application form, a deposit of $250 and a personal essay are also required as is an interview with one or more of the trainers. The rigorous nature of the program, the expectations for success, requirements for both certification and for an invitation to teach at Integral Yoga will all be explained in detail to the applicant in the interview. Together the applicant and the trainers will assess whether the training is appropriate, whether successful completion is likely and whether the time is right for participation. If an applicant is not accepted to the program, $200 of the deposit will be refunded.

Probation Period
During the first week of the program, the trainers may see, based on their many years of experience, that it is simply not workable for the participant to continue. On these very rare occasions, Integral Yoga Institute reserves the right to ask that trainee to leave the program. An explanation will be given by the trainers. Payments will be refunded, less the $250 deposit.
If in the first week, a trainee decides not to continue in the program, a refund less the $250 deposit will be given. All refunds are contingent on the return of the training manual and other materials. Withdrawal later in the program is at the trainee’s discretion and there will be no refund.

Continuation
At any time during the program, at the discretion of the trainers, a trainee may be given a
written warning on areas necessary for improvement, with suggestions on how to improve, in order to continue in the training. If improvements do not ensue, the trainee may be asked to leave the program. A partial refund will be worked out depending on length of time in the program.

Introduction

Testimonials

“Participating in the TT program not only strengthen my own practice but deepened my understanding of yoga philosophy, taking my practice to a whole new level. Studying and applying Raja Yoga has helped me keep my perspective on what is truly important and has given me tools to let go of the things that really don’t matter. The support and knowledge shared both by the trainers and other participants has been invaluable as I apply them to the classes I teach. Whether you want to teach or not, the training will transform your personal practice. Yoga was once something I did and now it has reverberated into each of my cells, becoming a part of me. ”
—Kamalika

“Beautifully organized, wonderfully taught program. Truly, I am fortunate to have been a part of this TT! I appreciate deeply all that went into teaching us to become teachers. This has been a very special time for me, and I would strongly encourage anyone interested in teaching Yoga to find their way to Integral.”
—Sarah Citta

“I am so fortunate to have discovered Integral Yoga Institute, our oasis of peace and spiritual renewal in Greenwich Village. The program was so much more than learning yoga poses; it was a doorway into the fascinating world of yoga, integrating meditation, breathing practices and a philosophy for living a happy and healthy life. With so many yoga teacher training programs now in NYC and across the country, IYI gives students the foundation to pursue any of the branches of yoga for advanced study. Personally, I’ve made so many wonderful and positive changes in my life since joining IYI, and I continue to participate in the many offerings to deepen my personal practice and teaching. Nowhere will one find a more devoted faculty and staff than at IYI, where selfless service to yoga students and the community is paramount. My life will never be the same since I’ve discovered the teachings of our founder, Sri Swami Satchidananda.” —Bhudhara Hari Kerner, Psy.D., RYT
