Understanding Yoga Through the Lens of Ayurveda
Program Description
Understanding Yoga Through the Lens of Ayurveda
Ayurveda provides a remarkable framework for understanding the deeper effects of Hatha Yoga, allowing you to practice with greater intention rather than simply moving through a sequence. Different postures, breathing techniques, meditation practices, and relaxation methods each influence the body and mind in unique ways, with distinct effects on the doshas, digestion, vitality, and nervous system.
This workshop is designed to help experienced yoga practitioners deepen your understanding of the practices you already know and love. Together we’ll explore how to recognize the qualities of different yogic techniques and thoughtfully adapt them according to your constitution, season, stage of life, and ever-changing state of balance.
Rather than asking, “What should I practice?” we’ll begin asking, “What does my body and mind need today?”
Together we’ll explore:
- How asana, pranayama, meditation, and relaxation influence the doshas
- The Ayurvedic effects of yoga on agni, ojas, vitality, and the nervous system
- Adapting practice for constitution, imbalance, and the changing seasons
- Developing a more therapeutic, responsive, and individualized yoga practice
This workshop is part of Yoga Beyond the Mat: Living the Wisdom of Ayurveda, a three-part workshop series with Cory Tixier, AD, AYT, LMT. Each workshop is designed to stand on its own—join us for one, two, or all three. Separate registration is required for each workshop.
Registered participants will receive a curated selection of optional resources to explore before the workshop, offering an opportunity to deepen their familiarity with the themes we’ll be discussing.
Continuing Education: Participants can apply 2.5 hours toward Yoga Alliance teacher credits.
