Discover the powerful connection between rhythm, breath, and meditation in this unique experiential workshop that blends hand drumming, mantra meditation, and yogic breathing techniques. Designed for all levels, this session invites participants to explore how rhythm and breath work together to harmonize the body and calm the mind.

You’ll be guided through basic percussion techniques using rhythms from Mediterranean and Indian traditions while learning to synchronize those patterns with the breath. This immersive practice introduces the concept of drumming as a form of active meditation—or “flowing japa”—through a series of mindful exercises that integrate movement, sound, and stillness.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in yoga, music, or meditation, this workshop offers a dynamic and accessible way to deepen your spiritual practice, enhance breath awareness, and explore rhythm as a path to inner clarity and creative expression.

The teacher is traveling without a set of workshop instruments, so we ask participants to please bring their own drum or percussion instruments, or more than one perhaps — any type is welcome. No previous experience with drumming, music, or yogic breathing is required for this workshop.

Gavriel Fiske is a lifelong member of the IYI sanga and learned yoga traditions from a very young age. A professional musician, writer and journalist, Gavriel has for decades been exploring rhythmic traditions, especially focusing on Middle-Eastern and Indian drumming, and has lived and studied for extended periods in India, Egypt and Israel.
